90% Covid-19 patients suffer lung damage post recovery
New Delhi : Coronavirus has impacted the humans badly both mentally and physically; a new report claimed that 90% of the people who have recovered from the Covid-19 infection have lungs damaged.
According to a report on coronavirus by a hospital in China's Wuhan, about 90 per cent of recovered COVID-19 patients in the city have lung damage while five per cent are in quarantine again after testing positive for the highly contagious disease a second time.
The doctors at Zhongnan Hospital carried out a research on the health of around 100 recovered patients and found that 90 per cent of them had damaged lungs. The team of doctors explained that the ventilation and gas exchange functions of their lungs have not recovered and functioning like that of a healthy person yet.
The team revealed that some of the recovered patients still need oxygen machines even three months after being discharged from hospitals. The results also showed that the recovered patients could only walk 400 metres in six minutes; an average healthy person can walk 500 metres in the same time period.
In an interesting development, 10 per cent of people showed disappearance of anti-bodies in them.
China reported 27 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, including 22 locally-transmitted cases, the National Health Commission (NHC) said on Wednesday.
Altogether 79,047 people had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease in the mainland, the NHC said.
