IRCTC New Rule: Link PNRs of a connecting journey, get easy refunds

New Delhi : There could be occasions when one passenger could not find a direct train to his destination and needs to take connecting trains. To make the process more convenient, IRCTC has introduced a new option where a traveller can link his PNR numbers to claim easy refunds in case of missing the second train due to a delay in the first train.

How to claim a refund on train tickets:

1: While booking tickets from IRCTC's official website, there is an option of "connecting journey booking" under the Trains menu.

2: Then, find a suitable train for the journey.

3: Passenger can check the accommodation available in the desired train on the train list page.

4: Click on the "Book Now" button and enter the connecting PNR number. To connect the two PNRs, the customer needs to input the eligible counter ticket or PNR booked with the same user ID.

5: The input PNR will be checked by IRCTC and if the PNR is eligible for connecting journey, the passenger details will be auto-populated, according to the IRCTC website.

A passenger can only link two PNRs for connecting trains if the next journey is within a time frame of 5 days from the arrival time of the first train. In case of linking the PNR of a counter ticket, IRCTC will send an OTP to the passenger's mobile number and verify the connecting journey.

Only a confirmed ticket is eligible for linking the PNR. On partial cancellation of either of the tickets, the PNR numbers will be de-linked.

Passenger details such as name, age etc should be the same in both the tickets. IRTC won't allow modification of the journey, once the PNRs are linked.

Changing the boarding station is also not allowed once you link the PNRs.
