New Delhi : Nearly 66 million years ago, Dinosaurs were wiped out from earth after an asteroid struck the planet, putting an end to a species existence that roamed on earth for more than 180 million years.

The researchers have now pin pointed the location where the asteroid had struck the planet, resulting in mass extinction. The dinosaur-killing asteroid had a diameter of 10.6 to 80.9 km and collided with Earth and over 65 million years ago.

While it wiped out dinosaurs from the planet, the event was a gift for humans as it colonized the entire planet.

According to a report, the collision happened at Chicxulub, Mexico, near the Yucatán Peninsula. It also explained the impact of collision – huge tidal waves, volcanic activities and earthquakes.

As per scientists, these apocalyptic-like conditions would have been a main factor in extinction of the dinosaurs.
