Prime Minister Narendra Modi will become the first PM to visit Sri Lanka on June 9 to meet President Maithripala Sirisena after the Easter serial bombings on April 21, 2019.

Two days after Srisena claimed Sri Lanka safe for travellers, India had issued a fresh advisory asking citizens travelling to Sri Lanka to be careful and vigilant in view of last month’s bombings in which over 250 people were killed.

President Maithripala Sirisena told diplomats on Monday that Sri Lanka, which faced deadly terror attacks on Easter Day, is 99% safe. He urged countries to lift travel ban imposed for the safety of the travellers.

Initially, the districts of Puttalam, Kurunegala and Gampaha, near Colombo, were told to stay indoors after Christian-led mobs attacked several Muslim-owned businesses and mosques on Sunday and Monday.

According to the news report, a group of Christians wanted to inspect the vehicle owned by a Muslim, refusing to which, they entered into a heated argument. Soon after, an angry mob gathered and ravaged the neighbourhood, attacking properties owned by Muslims.

Shiv Sena has asked its ally Bharatiya Janata Party to follow the similar steps as Sri Lanka in the matter. It further said that it isn’t just Triple Talaq but burqa as well which must be banned in the country.

The NIA on Monday arrested Riyas Aboobacker for allegedly being in touch with some of the Islamic State operatives who were planning Sri Lanka like suicide bombing in Kerala.
